Why Blue Star

Blue Star is different. No, really! We are.

Don’t take our word for it. Look us up on Glassdoor and see what our employees are saying.

With an annual employee retenftion rate of over 90% for the past 8+ years, an abundance of positive Glassdoor reviews, and recent recognition in the Washington Business Journal’s 2016 and 2017 “Best Places to Work” issue, it’s clear that the Blue Star team is doing something right and our community is taking notice.

Small Company Culture

Our personnel have expertise in the areas of software, systems, and security engineering. We are unified by a common enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology and a sincere sense of pride in serving the U.S. federal government as well as state agencies. Blue Star has a flat organizational structure with a lot of flexibility. Bureaucracy and rigidity do not thrive here. Our leadership is accessible and grounded, and team satisfaction is always considered paramount. Company events often include friends and family, and workplace policies support a healthy work-life balance.

Our company offers a robust benefits package including a generous PTO policy, 401K match, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, FSA, biennial personal computer allowance, monthly internet allowance, and an ample budget for training and technical literature.

New hires are always situated in teams that include other Blue Star employees and are never asked to work on a project alone. Opportunities to connect with teammates are plentiful and include tech talks, quarterly lunches, game nights, and annual events such as Take Your Child to Work Day, company picnics at Nationals Park, and a year-end holiday celebration. Events are never mandatory and time spent attending events held during work hours is often paid.

Ample Opportunity for Growth

We currently support more than 13 federal and state contracts with emphasis in the areas of cloud analytics, big data, R&D, machine learning, natural language processing, and digital forensics. This healthy contract portfolio translates into plentiful opportunities for our team as their interests and skills diversify and grow.

All of our currently available positions require a US government clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph in accordance with all federal laws and regulations.
